Dr Jenny Chan, “Behind the Scenes of a Tech Giant: Factories and Marginalized Voices of Workers.” Moderated by Dr Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng (Associate Professor of International Education, New York University) and Ziyi Mo (Dean’s Fellow, Student Life), with support from Joyce Tan (Specialist of Diversity Initiatives), NUY Shanghai, online, 22 April 2021.

Speaker: Dr Jenny Chan, Assistant Professor of Sociology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She co-wrote Dying for an iPhone: Apple, Foxconn, and the Lives of China’s Workers, with Mark Selden and Pun Ngai (Chicago: Haymarket Books & London: Pluto Press, 2020). She also serves as a vice president of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on Labour Movements (2018–2022).

Discussant: Dr Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng, Associate Professor of International Education, New York University. His interests include comparative perspectives on race/ethnicity and migration with a focus on China and the US.
