The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), in collaboration with the Department of Children and Youth, Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Social Work Profession Council of Thailand, the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), and the ASEAN Training Centre for Social Work and Social Welfare (ATCSW), organized a conference on the exchange of experiences among child protection social work professionals on 11 January 2025, at the Department of Children and Youth, MSDHS.
This significant event marks the first joint activity following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PolyU and the Social Work Profession Council of Thailand, aimed at enhancing the development of social workers and child protection practitioners in Thailand. Approximately 40 professionals in social work and child protection participated in the exchange of ideas, benefiting from the insights of esteemed international experts.
During the conference, Prof. Eric CHUI, Chair Professor of Social Work and Criminology and Head of APSS at PolyU, presented on "Alternative Care for Children." The closing ceremony featured Ms. Apinya Chomphumath, Director-General of the Department of Children and Youth, who expressed gratitude and appreciation to the participants for recognizing the importance of social work in child protection. She also provided guidance on developing the capabilities of social workers and child protection practitioners to ensure standardized practices that maximize benefits for children and families.
