The special issue on social action research contains one editorial and five research papers contributed by the scholars and practitioners in Mainland China and Hong Kong. The authors participated in the social work practice research seminars and workshops co-hosted by China and Global Development Network, Department of Applied Social Sciences, PolyU, the Peking University-The Hong Kong Polytechnic University China Social Work Research Centre, the National MSW Education Steering Committee and the China Association for Social Work Education. In these articles, besides recording their tasks in the projects which were conducted in villages, schools, and communities, the authors also shared their reflections during their research. Hence, it is not just a process of transforming knowledge into action but also a process that contributes to the development of action research. In summary, this special issue covers the latest development in action research in Mainland China and the contribution of scholars and practitioners in recent years.
