To strengthen academic cooperation, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Bandung Polytechnic of Social Welfare (POLTEKESOS) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 28 August 2026. The MoU was signed by Prof. Eric CHUI and Dr Lina FAVOURITA, Deputy Director of POLTEKESOS.

The MoU sets out a framework for fostering closer collaboration between the two institutions in support of academic and research cooperation, including collaborative research in social welfare, social work, and social policy; student mobility programmes; faculty exchanges; joint academic and community engagement activities; community service programmes; capacity-building initiatives for students, staff, and researchers; and other academic events.

Following the signing ceremony, Prof. Eric CHUI delivered a public lecture titled “The Roles of Social Workers in Addressing Child and Adolescent Issues in Hong Kong”. It explores collaboration among the government, business sectors, civil society, and universities, emphasising that social workers play a vital role in coordinating support, safeguarding rights, and building community connections. 

Prof. Ben KU, Director of CGDN, shared a presentation titled “Social Work Students as Reconcilers in the Age of Disaster and Conflict.” He introduced a framework of the social work of reconciliation and explored how social work can help repair fractures and restore broken relationships—between people and others, between people and themselves, and between people and nature—in a violent, hostile and deeply divided world.

By establishing this partnership, PolyU broadens opportunities for collaboration with Indonesia in education, research and community engagement activities, reinforcing its commitment to regional cooperation and the advancement of knowledge.
