The China and Global Development Network (CGDN) was pleased to coordinate a meaningful academic exchange between the School of Social Work at China Civil Affairs University (CCAU) and the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 23 September 2025. Led by Prof. Xuehui ZHAO, Dean of CCAU’s School of Social Work, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Eric CHUI, Chair Professor of Social Work and Criminology and Head of APSS. Delegates from APSS and CCAU engaged in productive discussions, sharing insights and experiences related to social work education and programme development. Prof. Ben KU (Director of CGDN) shared an overview and recent developments of APSS. Prof. Janet LEUNG, the chairperson of the Social Work panel, provided an overview of the Social Work panel. Dr Kong YAM outlined the undergraduate social work programme. Dr Cara ZHU, and Mr Ricky FUNG from CGDN presented the CGDN’s projects in One Belt, One Road countries and China.
APSS and CCAU delegates discussed and exchanged visions for social work education programmes.
CCAU delegates explored the CAVE System at PolyU’s Industrial Centre for social work education.
Furthermore, the CCAU delegates toured PolyU’s Industrial Centre, where they explored the innovative application of the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) System in social work education. The visit fostered mutual inspiration, paving the way for future collaboration in teacher training, social work practice, and student exchange programmes.
