Shunde Medical Social Work Talent Capacity-Building Project

Project Location: Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong, China

Project Period: October 2025 – January 2026

Project Description: The Shunde Medical Social Work Talent Capacity-Building Project was jointly initiated by the Guangdong He Foundation and the Peking University–PolyU China Social Work Research Centre to support the development of a localised and sustainable medical and health social work system in Shunde. Building on a baseline study of humanistic healthcare and health social work conducted in Shunde in 2024, the project explores best practices in medical and health social work from Chinese Mainland and around the world, and assesses their relevance to the local healthcare context. Through research, expert consultation, and local needs assessment, the project aims to develop a practice framework, competency standards, and a training curriculum for medical and community health social workers in Shunde. The project seeks to strengthen professional capacity, enhance person-centred healthcare services, and lay the foundation for a future talent development programme that supports integrated health and social care in the region.
