While world-wide based evidence about the importance of communal resilience and bottom-up governance in confronting social turbulence and its detrimental impacts is piling up, the China Journal of Social Work will dedicate a special issue (expected publication date: April 2023) to the theme of “Community Governance in China and Israel”. This special issue aims to (1) introduce and discuss the latest developments in community governance in China and Israel; (2) compare the approaches, challenges and opportunities of community governance in China and Israel; (3) theorise the practical approaches of community governance and (4) shed light on the role of professionals (social workers and others) in shaping bottom-up communal governance and its deep meaning. All papers, including empirical and theoretical ones, that relate to the issue of community governance in China and/or in Israel are welcome.

China Journal of Social Work (CJSW) is the first academic English journal jointly edited from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to focus on social work development taking place in China. The journal endeavours to provide a platform for scholars within and outside mainland China to share research, teaching and practice experiences and to facilitate critical dialogue between Chinese social workers and their international peers.

The journal welcomes submissions from all areas of social work theory and practice, social work education, social development, and social policy in the Chinese context. While the journal will primarily focus on the Chinese mainland, it welcomes contributions from other countries and regions, which have broad implications for social work internationally.
